Obituary

April Dawn McGuire, formerly of Hoges Chapel, and most recently of Hillsville, VA, a cherished soul whose warmth joy were as radiant as the spring season, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026, in Roanoke, VA. Born on April 28, 1967, in the beautiful state of Virginia, April carried the essence of her birthplace within her – a love for nature, the simplicity of life, and a spirit that never waned.

April's journey through life was a testament to the love and connections that bind us. She was the beloved daughter of Carol Martin Ratcliffe and the late Curtis "Happy" McGuire. Her step-father, Mike Ratcliffe, played a significant role in her life, offering support and love throughout her journey. April was a loving sister to David McGuire and his wife Kristy, her sister Kim McGuire and Pep her half-brother Jeffrey Ratcliffe and his wife Brittany, and her half-sisters, Jennifer with her husband Patrick, Kim with CJ, and Tracy with Josh. The joy of being an aunt to Kallie and her husband Ian, and Justin McGuire, was only surpassed by the delight of being a great-aunt to young Avery. A special bond was shared with her aunt Norma Link and her husband George, who were integral parts of her life.

April was preceded in death by her father, Curtis "Happy" McGuire, her grandparents, Alma and Loveline Martin, and Lucy and Mack McGuire, along with several aunts, uncles, and great-aunts and uncles, who helped shape the woman she became.

Those who knew April will fondly remember her passions and hobbies that painted the canvas of her life. She relished the simple pleasure of riding the golf cart, with the breeze in her hair and a smile on her face. The outdoors was her sanctuary, where she found peace in the rustling leaves, the songs of birds, and the quiet beauty of the world around her. April's love for Elvis was more than just a musical preference; it was a reflection of her appreciation for a timeless era and the joy of song.  Finally, the sounds of a race or the fire engines on the day of a parade was what bought her joy and the spark that gave her life.

April's essence was one of nurturing and care, which extended beyond her family to her special caregivers and family, Billy and Bridgette Crigler, Jason, Ty, and Ellie. Their dedication and love provided comfort and companionship, enriching April's life in countless ways.

The family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Friday, January 23, 2026 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.  A graveside service will be conducted Friday, January 23, 2026 at 2:00 PM in Mount Lebanon/Southside Cemetery with Garry Williams officiating.  A guestbook is available to send condolences to the family by visiting www.kendallfuneralhome.com.  The staff of Kendall Funeral Home are honored to serve the family, friends, and caregivers of April.
