Arnold Berman Hughes, 68, of Pembroke departed this life at his home on Chapman St, Thursday evening, December 30, 2010. Born in Giles County on August 13, 1942, he was a son of the late Lula Thursa Hughes. Before his disability he has been employed as a painter with Fairchild. He was preceded in death by his mother and sisters, Gladys Long and Rosie Nicewonder.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of forty years Georgia Cumbee Hughes; his son and daughter-in-law Arnold Eugene and Cassandra Hughes of Pembroke; his daughter Lisa Dawn Hughes and Larry Martin of Pearisburg; his grandchildren Natasha Renee Martin, Tanner Cruze Riddle, Desirai Lynn Hughes, and Aubbrie Grace Hughes; his sisters Lois and J C Conley of Narrows, Verna "Tag" and Donald Kidd of Narrows, and Fannie Thomas of Chicago, Illinois.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00: PM in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with burial following in the Fillinger Cemetery in Pembroke. The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours before the services. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that contributions be made to the Kendall Funeral Home to help with the funeral expenses.
