AVIS EVANGELINE DETAMORE, 81, of Cascade Drive, Pembroke, departed this life Saturday morning, February 27, 2016, at Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem. Born in Pembroke on June 27, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Tom and Nellie Lucas Gillispie. Avis was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna D. Stuart; her sisters Maxine McGuire, Nannie Gillispie, Irene Martin, Hazel Creasy, and Virginia Kanode; her brothers Harold, Billy, Frank, Virgil, and Jimmie Gillispie. She was the last living of eleven children.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her sons Tommy Detamore and Eddie Detamore of Pembroke; her three grandchildren; her three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, February 29, 2016 at 11:00 am in Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with pastors James Walker and Chris Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in the Fillinger Cemetery at Pembroke. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday morning one hour before the services.
