BETSY JANE PORTERFIELD, 91, of Mt. Lake Rd., Newport, departed this life Saturday morning, January 28, 2017 at Carilion Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg. Born at Hoges Chapel, Pembroke, on June 13, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Oakey and Roxie Williams Dowdy. She was a member of Sherry Memorial Christian Church near her home and was retired from the Coning Department at the Celanese Plant at Narrows. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Ira Givens Porterfield, her siblings Barbara Dowdy, Aubrey "Tic" Dowdy, Jack Dowdy, Joe Dowdy, and Jimmy Dowdy.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son and daughter-in-law Wayne and Susan Porterfield of Newport; her grandson Jared Porterfield of Newport; her sisters Mary Ann Townley (Bill) of Ripplemead and Nancy Sarver of Roanoke.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 30, 2017, at 11:00 am in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke. Burial will follow in the Porterfield Cemetery at Newport. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Sunday evening 5 until 7 pm.
