Betty Jean Williams Burton, 78, of Pearisburg departed this life Friday morning, July 10, 2009 at Riverview Nursing Home in Narrows. Born in Newport on July 23, 1930, she was a daughter of the late James Walker and Ruby Smith Williams. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Preceding her in death were her parents, a grandchild, a daughter Beverly Thomas, a sister Virginia Martin, and a brother William M. "Dick" Williams.

She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved and faithful husband Robert F. Burton; two sons Sherwood Reed and Wayne Reed of Roanoke; a grandchild; two sisters Mary Ann Huffman of Cedar Bluff and Hilda Grubb of Kokomo, Indiana.

Private funeral services were conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, July 12, 2009 in the Kendall Funeral Home at Pembroke with entombment following in Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg.
