Bobby Wayne Johnston

Bobby Wayne Johnston, 76, of Pembroke, Virginia, passed away on August 20, 2026. He was born on December 19, 1949, in Pearisburg, Virginia, and lived a life marked by hard work, quiet strength, and devotion to the people and places he loved. 

Bobby was the son of the late George Johnston and Eileen Morris Johnston. He was also preceded in death by his wives, Ruby Dunford Johnston and Chi Ran Lee Johnston; brothers, Danny Johnston and James Johnston. 

Throughout his life, Bobby remained closely connected to his family, and he was especially loved by his sisters, Rebecca Lucas and Dreama Blankenship and her husband, John. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who will remember him with affection and gratitude. 

Bobby was a man who understood the value of service, responsibility, and perseverance. He served his country in the United States Army and was proud to have received the Army SP E5 Korea National Defense Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. His military service reflected the same steady character that guided him throughout his life. After his time in the Army, Bobby continued to work with dedication and discipline, and he was employed as a Correctional Officer for Bland Correctional Farm. Those who knew Bobby will remember that he was a straightforward man with a kind heart and a strong sense of duty. He valued honesty, loyalty, and hard work, and he carried those values into every part of his life. 

Bobby found joy in simple pleasures. He enjoyed watching Westerns, and he could often be found sitting on the porch, taking in the quiet moments of the day. These peaceful routines reflected the calm and unassuming life he appreciated. He was content with the small things that made a day meaningful, and he found happiness in familiar comforts and the company of those closest to him. 

There will be a celebration of life conducted for Bobby at a later date with military honors presented at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, Virginia with Pastor Reggie Britts officiating where he too will be laid to rest.
