IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bobby Joe
Tawney
February 17, 1952 – February 11, 2026
Bobby Joe Tawney, went to eternal rest in the presence of Heavenly Father, peacefully on February 11, 2026, in Pembroke, Virginia, just shy of his 74th birthday. Born on February 17, 1952, in the rolling hills of Virginia, Bobby Joe was a man whose presence was as steadfast and gentle as the Blue Ridge Mountains he so loved.
He is survived by a loving family that includes his caring daughter, Jennifer Acord, and her husband Glen; his devoted son, Joshua Tawney, and his wife Jessica; his adored grandchildren, Matthew Acord and his wife Amber, Ashlynn Bayne and her husband Austin, and Garrett Acord; and his cherished great-grandchild, Lucas Bayne, with the joyous expectation of another great-grandchild on the way. Bobby Joe also leaves behind his brother, James Tawney, and his wife Viola; his favorite niece and nephew, Michelle Raines and Andy Tawney; and his special friends and cousins, Charlotte and Gene Shrader, all of whom will miss him deeply.
Bobby Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Deborah Dunn Tawney, who was the love of his life and with whom he shared many treasured memories. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Coleman and Mary Helen Lucas Tawney; his brother, Marvin Tawney; and his sister, Mavis Martin. The legacy of love and integrity they instilled in him lived on in every action he took and every life he touched.
Bobby Joe was a pillar of strength and dedication throughout his career at Federal Mogul, where he was respected by colleagues for his work ethic and camaraderie. An avid New York Yankees fan, Bobby Joe found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He could often be found behind the wheel of his Chevy Silverado, a vehicle as reliable and enduring as he was. His love for mowing his yard was more than a chore; it was a testament to his appreciation for nature and the satisfaction of a job well done. In his quiet moments, he enjoyed watching episodes of "Gunsmoke," reflecting on the timeless tales of morality and justice that resonated with his own principles. He was a faithful member of the New River Valley Stake Center-Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located in Pembroke, Virginia.
