Obituary

Carper Payne Caldwell, 75, of Newport went to be with his Heavenly Father Saturday morning February 5, 2005 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was born at Newport on January 13, 1930 to the late George Cleveland and Mary Fisher Caldwell. He was a veteran of the Korean War and retired from Radford Arsenal with 27 years service. He was a member of Level Green Christian Church and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be truly missed. Preceding him in death are his parents; five brothers Raymond, Brady, Cecil, Arnold and Thomas Caldwell and two sisters Edith Kirk and Reba Webb.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 50 years Elsie Huffman Caldwell; three sons Caryie and wife Linda Caldwell of Newport, Dale and wife Carol Caldwell of Catawba, Greg Caldwell of Newport; daughter Laurlene Caldwell and Larry Martin of Giles County; three grandchildren Jason, Jermey, Erin; two sisters Vivian McCroskey of Newport and Lillian Caldwell of Salem; also numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends Dewey Day and his coon hunting buddy Snake Davis.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1:00 PM in Level Green Christian Church with Pastor Mike Whittaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Williams Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke Monday evening from 6 to 8 PM.
