Obituary

Charles David Kellison Sr., affectionately known as Charlie to his friends and family, of Pearisburg, Virginia passed away peacefully on his 70th birthday, April 10, 2024, in Salem, Virginia. Born on April 10, 1954, in the heart of Virginia, Charlie lived a life marked by dedication to his family, a strong work ethic, and a love for the simple joys in life.

Charlie's early years in Virginia laid the foundation for a life full of love and laughter. He grew up surrounded by a large family who will miss him dearly. Charlie was a beloved father to Charles "Chucky" Kellison Jr. and Stephanie Caudill, and a cherished stepfather to Rosanna Seymour and her friend, Brian Hill. His love continued to multiply with the joy of his grandchildren, Gracie Lynn Caudill, Deana Estep, Josh Dowdy (Katie), Cody Dowdy (Amber), Dalton Seymour, Shayleigh Havens, Dakota Havens, and Kiley Hughes; and was further blessed with great-grandchildren, Steven and Stark Estep, Zinna Dowdy, Zayah Dowdy, Branson Dowdy, Kaibryn Dowdy, and Alaya Dowdy. Charlie's brothers, Frank "Bugs" Kellison and Jackie "Jack" Kellison and his wife Barbara, and Michael Kellison and his wife Shirley, as well as his sister-in-law Anna Sue Kellison, will fondly remember their brother and the memories they shared.  He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews, and friends who he shared his life with. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Kellison and Dema Wilburn Kellison, a step-grandson, Dustin Dowdy; his sisters Evelyn Baker, Carrie Dickson, Ann Morris, and Kathleen "Katherine" Lambert, and his brother Robert "Foxy" Kellison. Charlie's long-time companion, Margie Dowdy, stood by him through the years, sharing in his passions and daily life.

Throughout his career, Charlie was known for his unwavering reliability and skill. He spent many years with the Virginia Lime Company and Stonehard, where he developed a reputation for his hard work and dedication. His professional life was not just about the work itself, but also about the lasting relationships he built with his colleagues, who became lifelong friends.

Charlie's passions were as varied as they were heartfelt. An avid fisherman, he found solace and joy in the calm waters, patiently waiting for the catch of the day. His love for pitching horseshoes was matched only by his competitive spirit, which he also brought to his gardening, nurturing plants with the same care he gave to his relationships. Charlie was known for his adventurous ginseng hunts and his swims at the deep hole in Wolf Creek.

A true sports enthusiast, Charlie was a devoted fan of the San Francisco 49ers and held a special place in his heart for Virginia Tech's teams. Horseracing was another favorite pastime, and he could often be found cheering on his picks from the comfort of his living room.
