Daniel Wallace Smith, Sr, 73 of Mountain Lake Road in Newport, departed this life Sunday Morning January 19, 2020 at home under the care of family and Good Samaritan Hospice. Born in Montgomery County, VA on January 12, 1948 he was the son of David and Thelma Songer Smith. "Danny" enjoyed his days working with his hands as a concrete finisher. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson Tyler Cole Smith.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a son Daniel "Wally " Smith Jr and Melissa of Blacksburg, a daughter, Sandra Biesiada of Roanoke, VA, brothers William Darnell Smith "Donnie of Mountain Lake, Gregory Lynn Smith (Tracie) of Maybrook, and Ronald Dean Smith of Christiansburg, VA, Grandchildren Alex, Cody, Adam, Dustin, Justin, and Josh, and great-grandchildren Maximus, Kailee, Braxton, Levi and Alleigha.

There will be a funeral service on Friday, January 24, 2020 at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke, VA. Following the service, there will be a graveside service at Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, VA.
