DAVID THOMAS EPPERLY "TOMMY", 68, of Cascade Drive in Pembroke, departed this life Thursday evening, January 5, 2017 at his home in the loving care of his family after a short but hard-fought battle with cancer. Born on March 30, 1948 in Pearisburg, he was a son of the late Lois Stevers Eppling and Bernard Edward Epperly "Peel". He was a veteran of the U S Navy, Viet Nam Era, and was retired as a mine supervisor at Nation Gypsum and later Chemical Lime at Kimballton. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step-father Frank Eppling, his daughter Tammy Jeanette Epperly, his sisters Bonnie Anderson, Connie Fisher, Melisa Jane Epperly and his step-mother Jane Jones Epperly.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter and son-in-law Shelly and James DiRico of Doe Creek Pembroke; his grandchildren Chelsey Marie DiRico, Glen Thomas DiRico, Robert, Fox, Logan Fox, Kayleigh Cook, Madison Cook, Alissa Bishop; his sisters and brothers-in-law Merinda and Jeff Williams of Pembroke, Charlotte and Mike Epperley of Blacksburg; his brothers Bernard Epperly Jr., Monnie Eppling, Ricky Eppling, Terry Jones and Timmy Jones; his doggie and good friend "Patches", and he was a special uncle to several beloved nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be conducted Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 11:30 am in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the services. A graveside military service will follow at the Fillinger Cemetery at Pembroke.
