Doris Vaughan Carter

Doris Vaughan Carter, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026, at her home in Radford, Virginia. Born on November 2, 1934, in Texas, Doris lived a life filled with creativity, dedication, and warmth.

Doris devoted her professional career to advertising with YMBRA, where she demonstrated a keen eye for detail and a passionate commitment to her work. Beyond her professional achievements, Doris was known for her vibrant spirit and a wide range of interests. She cherished old movies, often enjoying their timeless charm, and found great joy in participating in plays, which allowed her to express her love for the arts and storytelling.

Family was central to Doris’s life. She is survived by her loving sons, Jeremy Young Carter and Joseph Christopher Howell, along with Joseph’s wife Anna Marie. Her daughter, Lisa Paulette Gutermuth, and her husband Albert also carry forward her legacy. Doris’s love extended across generations to her grandchildren: Colette Carter, Christiana Adair Jefferey and her husband Matthew, Hypothia Carter, and Julie Deanna Champine. She also found immense happiness in her role as a great-grandmother to Lucy, Winnie, Israel, Tovi, Leah, and Isaac, who brought light and joy to her later years.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Cecil Yeager and Mattie Pauline Young Yeager, as well as her sister, Lynn Carol Yeager. Their memory remained close to her heart throughout her life.
