Douglas Linwood Vaught, 79, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2026 at Carilion Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg, Virginia with his family by his side. He was born March 18, 1947 to the late Orren and Faye Vaught.

Doug built a life centered on service, hard work and deep love for his family. He worked as a draftsman, Grade A contractor, running his rental property, and mobile home sales business. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1966 and served honorably during the Vietnam War while stationed in Korea as a Chaplain’s Assistant. He was discharged in 1968 as a SPEC 5.

He loved driving his NO 28 mini modified at the New River Valley Speedway with his Mom always in the stands until a horrific crash ended his racing. His love of motorcycles came later and he enjoyed many adventures traveling over the country to rallies and long rides. His respect for the Veterans and his love to ride lead him to join the Patriot Guard and was honored to serve on several missions until his health forced him to give up riding. He spent countless hours on Claytor Lake with his children and grandchildren enjoying his boat and jet skis. His memory will live on in the lessons he taught and love he gave.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters, Bonnie Marie Vaught, Wanda Vaught Price (Jimmy), and Thelma Vaught Albert; and brothers, Harold L Vaught (JoAnn), Bryant Vaught (Margaret), and Marvin Vaught.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Kay Harman Vaught; step-children, Stephanie Thompson (Jordan), Michael Willard (Katherine), and Sarah Trixler (Jim); grandchildren, Tanner, Jameson, and Brianna Trixler, and William and Colin Peterson; sisters, Nancy V Smith (Dale), and Loretta V Atkins (Glen) who in his sisters words “There was never a brother more loved, Momma told us to look after Linwood”; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
