Edith Irene Cumbee, 86, of River Road in Pembroke departed this earthly life from Montgomery Regional Hospital Wednesday September 28, 2005. Born in Giles County on July 28, 1919 she was a daughter of the late Howard and Eliza Lucas Carter. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Chapman Cumbee and two sons Lee Cumbee and Winfred Cumbee.

She leaves to cherish her memory four sons Walter Cumbee of Carroll County, Ronnie L. Cumbee of Pembroke, Robert Cumbee of Pembroke and Frankie Cumbee of Blacksburg; five daughters Freda Sanders of Pembroke, Mary Kessinger of Rich Creek, Elizabeth Harless of Bland, Anna Sue Cumbee of Pembroke and Georgia Hughes of Pembroke; a half-sister Janey Neice of Pembroke; thirty-two grandchildren , thirty-eight great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with The Rev. Jim Pickens officiating. Burial will follow in the Fillinger Cemetery at Pembroke. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM.
