Obituary

On Saturday November 17, 2007 the cadence softly ended and Edna Louise Atkins Williams at the age of 86 gracefully went home to the Lord. "My harp also is turned to mourning and my organ into the voice of them that weep" Job 30:31

She is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, John Claude Williams, Jr., residing at 134 Knob Mountain Road, in the Maybrook Community near Pembroke, VA.

She was born in Mullins, WV on April 24, 1921 to the late Hiram S. Atkins and Alberta Porterfield Atkins. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and a sister; Eugene, Bryon, Maury Atkins and Claudine Lubliner. Her surviving siblings are Helen Smith and Tommy Atkins of Pembroke, VA and sisters-in-law Rachel, Clarice, and Lola Atkins.

She was a loving mother to her three children; a daughter and son-in-law Rebecca Williams Yadav and Uday Yadav of Lake Mary, FL , two sons and daughters-in-law Roger and Ruth Williams of Forest Hill, WV and David and Pamela Williams of Pembroke, VA; Seven grandchildren whom she thought the world of; Monica and Jeff Steiner of Sarasota, FL, Ursula and Ward Gunter of Vero Beach, FL, Ryan Yadav of Lake Mary, FL, Keith and Kim Williams of Ripplemead, VA, Kristin and Gary Mills of Charleston, SC, Laura and Matthew Williams of Pembroke. She also had four great-grandchildren whom she adored; Mikaela Williams, Max Steiner, Claire Steiner, and Lily Kate Gunter; several nieces and nephews.

Edna was known for her beautiful talent of playing the piano and organ. She was a pianist at Newport First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she was a member. She also played for many funerals and weddings over her lifetime. She belonged to the Order of Eastern Star, Pearis Chapter 124 and Ingles Chapter 96, United Daughters of the Confederacy and Daughters of the American Revolution.

Funeral services will be conducted at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Newport on Tuesday November 20, 2007 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Roger Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. A reception will follow the grave side services at Pembroke First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. The family will receive friends Monday November 19, 2007 from 6 to 8 PM with Order of Eastern Star performing the evening service at 7:45 PM in The Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke, VA. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to the building fund at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Newport, VA.
