Ella Mae Rakes "Sissie Baby", 61, of Pembroke departed this life at her home Friday morning, May 22, 2015. Born in Giles County on February 10, 1954, she was a daughter of the late Odie Sr. and Ada Hilton Kast. She was also preceded in death by her brother Odie Kast, Jr. and her sisters Elizabeth Teass, Bernice Kast, and Margaret Lawson.

She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband Charlie D. Rakes; her son Charles Duston Rakes of Pembroke; her step son Charles Darin Rakes of Galax; her step-daughter Yolanda Burrier and her husband Randy of Floyd; her brother and his wife Charles and Lena Kast of Narrows; her sisters and their husbands Mary Collins of Pembroke, Dorine Merrix and Willie Dean of Pearisburg, Linda and Johnny Sexton of Pearisburg; and her four step-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 1:00 pm in the Church of God Mountain Assembly on Sinking Creek Road in Pembroke with pastors Eddie Kendall, Frank Marion, and Alvin Trivette officiating. The family will receive friends at the church 30 minuets before the services. At Ella's request her body was donated to science. The Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke is in charge of the arrangements.
