Everette Shelton Dean, 74 of Givens Lane in Blacksburg, departed this life Wednesday morning, November 19, 2008 at his home after a battle with a stroke and prostate cancer. Born September 24, 1934 in Max Meadows, VA, he was a son of the late Walter S. and Beulah Lilly Dean. He was preceded in death also by two sisters Delma Dean and Wilda Pennington and three brothers Marlon, Walter, Jr, and Bobby Dean. He retired from the Volvo Truck Plant in Dublin after 181/2 years loyal service in electronics. He served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the United Auto Workers Union. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and a friend to the many that knew him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his living wife of fifty years, Janet Breen Dean; a daughter and son-in-law Kathy D. and Ignazio Cossentino of Myrtle Beach, SC; three grandchildren Steven, Maria, and Anthony Cossentino of Myrtle Beach, SC; two sisters Mrs. Betty Stewart (Jack) of Christiansburg and Mrs. Edith Semones of Portsmouth; a brother Bennie Dean of Pulaski; several nieces and nephews; a special nephew Clayton Dean of Newport.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with Pastors Eddie Kendall, Ira Smith and Jube Burk officiating. Entombment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Christiansburg. Military graveside services will be conducted by American Legion Posts 311 in Pembroke, 68 in Narrows and VFW Post 6000 in Narrows. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home. The family would like to express Thanks to Carilion Hospice Staff for all their care, the staff at Montgomery Regional Hospital, and his wonderful doctors Dr. Michael Payne, Dr.Kevin Griffin, Dr. Harry McCoy, Dr. Goldsmidt, and Dr. Randall Hess.
