Floyd Franklin Gilmer, 78, of Roanoke and formerly of Guinea Mt. in Giles County, departed this life Tuesday morning, March 19, 2019 in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA. Born in Giles County on February 13, 1941, he was a son of the late Floyd Elbert and Mildred Gay Long Gilmer. Floyd had been employed as warehouse supervisor for J C Penny.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 52 years Brenda Whittaker Gilmer; his children and their spouses Debra F. (Tom) Zero of Odessa, FL, Scott E Washer of King, NC, Sherry D Pickeral of Vinton, Michael F (Lisa) Gilmer, Timothy R Gilmer of Roanoke; his grandchildren Andrew J (Danielle) Zero of Brandon, FL, Jacob, Trent and Olivia Washer of King, NC Seth (Kristen) Gilmer of Vinton, Alyson Gilmer of Vinton, Emily Pickeral of Vinton; his sisters and their spouses Martha G (Jack) Tawney of Christiansburg, Edith G (Gary) Trout of Roanoke; and his niece Michaela R. Trout of Roanoke.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 22, 2019 at 2:00 pm in The Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with Pastors Rick Brown and Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the services.
