Frederick Merriell King "Freddie", age 70, of Pembroke departed this life Thursday evening, June 6, 2013 at Lewis-Gale Hospital Montgomery in Blacksburg after a long illness. Born in Pembroke on August 23, 1942, he was a son of Vellen Summers King of Pembroke and the late Rufus Burrel King. He had been employed with the Town of Pearisburg before he retired. He ws preceded in death by his father and his brother Douglas King.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother; his beloved wife Melissa Sachs King; his sons and daughters-in-law Benjamin Adam King and Toni Lynne Brown of Rich Creek, Branden Philip and Danielle King of Pearisburg; his grandchildren Kiara King, Branden Philip King II, Allanuh King, Jaiden King, Jasmine King, Antonio Formes, Amira Brown; his sister and brother-in-law Pastors Joann and Fred Carper of Pembroke; his brothers and sister-in-law "Billy" Rufus Lee King of Pembroke and Donald and Madeline King of Pembroke.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with the Rev Fred Carper and Rev Mark Sachs officiating. Burial will follow in the Horseshoe Cemetery at Pembroke. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6 until 8 pm.
