Obituary

George William "Buddy" Keffer, 87, of River Road, Pembroke, departed this life Saturday afternoon at his home in his easy chair. Born in Pembroke on February 7, 1927 he was a son of the late Roy and Mabel Myers Keffer. He had been employed at Virginia Lime Co. in Kimballton as a Maintenance Foreman. Buddy was a Number One Bluegrass Music Fan, and had a tape of nearly every Bluegrass Recording ever made, and he and his late wife Virginia loved to "flatfoot". Buddy was a veteran of the U S Army Air Corps, WWII. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 65 years Virginia Martin Keffer, his son G W Keffer, Jr. and his sister Darlene Steele.



He leaves to cherish his memory his son and his fiancé who were also his devoted caregivers, Joseph Keffer and Judy Cheek of Pembroke; his six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.



Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1:00 pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with burial following in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:30 until service time Tuesday. Graveside military honors will be performed by American Legion Posts 311 Pembroke, 68 Narrows, 145 Peterstown and VFW Post 6000 Narrows.
