. Herbert Cecil "Jack" Vencill, 89, formerly of Ripplemead died Wednesday October 22, 2008 in Abingdon, VA where he resided at Grace Health Care. He was born January 10, 1919 in Russell County, the first child of the late Arleigh and Bess Marshall Vencill. He was a veteran of the U S Navy and the owner of H.C. Vencill Trucking Company. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mary Bostic Vencill, a brother Sam Vencill and a sister Mary Steele Vencill. He is survived by a sister Gene Vencill and a special sister-in-law Mary Ellen Vencill of the Belfast Community. Also surviving are a son Stephen Vencill of Bluefield, VA and his daughter Barbara Vencill of Roanoke, VA; a daughter Portia V. Munsey and husband Hamp of Greensboro, NC, their children Michele Munsey Fox and Todd Munsey and great-grandchildren Olivia, Matthew, and Caroline Fox, Charlotte and Walker Munsey, all who called him "Great-granddaddy Jack". The family will receive friends Saturday October 25 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke. Burial will be private. A memorial service will follow on Saturday at 2:30 PM at Mt Zion United Methodist Church in Bluefield, VA.
