Howard Andrew Lucas, 87, of Northside Road, Newport, Craig County, VA departed this life Sunday morning, September 17, 2017, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA. Born in Giles County on February 24, 1930, he was a son of the late Gilbert Augusta Lucas and Kate Elizabeth Dowdy Lucas. He was at a young age a member of Sherry Memorial Christian Church, a retired electrician foreman at Virginia Tech with 15 years service. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Alvie, Tom, Bill, and Walter Lucas and his sisters Helen Tawney and Christine Porterfield, and an infant brother and sister. Andrew grew up in the Mountain Lake Community of Giles, enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing, and never met a stranger.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 60 years Yvonne Hypes Lucas; his sons David Lucas of the home, Roger Lucas and his wife Pam of Newport, Timothy Lucas of Newport, Dean Lucas of Blacksburg, and Kevin Lucas of Roanoke; his daughters Susan L. Clark of Roanoke and Diane Schneider and her husband Bill of Chesapeake; his grandchildren Crystal, Becky, Andrew, Amanda, Brandon, Miranda, Tyler, Garrett, and Logan; his great-grandchildren Aaron, Skyler, Sonny, and Zeyden.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 11:00 am in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with Pastor Dewey Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in the Hypes Family Cemetery on Northside Road in Craig County. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 pm. .
