Obituary

James Everett Hale, Jr., 84, of Knoxville, TN passed away Friday June 30, 2006 at Park West Hospital in Knoxville. He was born in Comers Rock, VA on August 3, 1921 and grew up in the Marion and Wytheville, VA area. He worked at the Hercules Powder Co. in Radford, VA before entering the US Army during WW II. He served in the 101st and 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper. He entered Normandy as a glider pilot and served in the Battle of the Buldge at Bastone where he received the Purple Heart. After his discharge he attended the International Vocational School in Roanoke, VA and worked in the area before moving to Oak Ridge, TN where he was employed by Union Carbide, retiring in March of 1984 with thirty-three years of employment.



Mr. Hale was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Nannie Stamper Hale and his brother, Charles R. Hale of Salem. He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Ruth Law Hale; his brother and sister-in-law Laawrence E. and Mary Hale of Salinas, CA; sister-in-law Joyce Hale of Salem, VA; half-sister and her husband Dolly and Ira McGrady of Elk Creek, VA a sister-in-law Marion G. Law of Pembroke, VA; a sister-in-law Jackie Law of Bristol, TN; six nieces and nephews and their families in VA and AL.



Graveside military services will be conducted Monday at 1:00 PM at Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, VA by VFW Post No.6000 in Narrows and American Legion Post No. 311 in Pembroke and No. 68 in Narrows and Pastor Eddie Kendall. The family will receive friends at The Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke from 11:30 until 12:30 before the services.
