James Allen Johnston, 78, of Mountain Drive in Pearisburg died Wednesday morning February 23, 2005 at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Born in Glen Lyn on June 6, 1926 he was a son of the late William B. Johnston, Sr. and Margaret White Johnston. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg and retired from Appalachian Power Co. in Glen Lyn and a veteran of the U S Navy in WW II. He was preceded in death by two brothers William B. Johnston, Jr. and Guy R. "Sonny" Johnston.

He leaves to cherish his memory a son and daughter-in-law Stephen and Becky Smith Johnston of Troutville; two daughters and son-in-law April Johnston of Harrisonburg and Lisa and husband Greg Corell of Pearisburg; three grandchildren Amy J. Allen and husband David of Roanoke, Samantha Corell of Blacksburg and Molly Corell of Pearisburg.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with The Rev. Tony Collins and The Rev. Fred Austin officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours before the services.
