James Elba Williams "Blackie", 82, of Pembroke died Monday evening March 7, 2005 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem. Born in Alleghany Co. on August 14, 1922 he was a son of the late Sellers and Katie Smith Williams. He was a veteran of the U S Army in WW II , earned his living as a skilled painter, and had been a member of Pembroke Christian Church.

He is survived by his four sons James Michael Williams of Lebanon, Missouri, David Edward Williams of Covington, Daniel Elba Williams of Vinton, Brian Lee Williams of Christiansburg; a sister Dallas W. Douglas of Roanoke; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 AM in Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at The Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 PM.
