Jerry Franklin Covill, 73 of Rural Retreat, Virginia departed this life July 24, 2023 in the care of Lewis Gale Medical Center-Salem.  Born in Montgomery County on December 14, 1949 he was a son of the late Robert Franklin Covill and Pauline Maxey Covill.

Upon exiting High School, Jerry joined the United States Army and proudly served in the Vietnam War.  Later he would work for Pulaski Furniture in security.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing on the lake when he lived in Alaska, reading and watching westerns.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Dian Covill; brothers, Steven Covill, and Keith Covill; brothers-in-law, Donald Wimmer, and Jimmie Sutphin; and two nephews, Shaun and Robert Lee Wimmer.

Left to cherish his memory to their hearts are his sisters, Donna Wimmer of Eggleston, and Carol Sutphin of Eggleston.

There will be celebration of life conducted for Jerry on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at 7:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bob Neace officiating.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
