John Wayne Crockett, 63, of Curve Road, Pearisburg, VA, departed this life Wednesday morning February 11, 2009 at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center at Radford. Born in Pearisburg on November 26, 1945, he was a son of the late Walter Geroge, Sr. and Maggie Sue Eppley Crockett. He had been employed as an auto mechanic at Doug's Body Shop in Pearisburg and as a Roanoke Times Deliveryman. He had fought a long hard battle with illness for the last several years. John was preceded in death by his brothers Doug "Snowball" Crockett, Walter Crockett, Jr., and David K. Crockett.

He leaves to cherish his memory his brothers Roger Crockett of Pearisburg , (his devoted caregiver) and Jimmy Crockett of Pearisburg; his sisters Mary Crockett of Pearisburg, and Pamela Crockett of Pearisburg; several nieces and nephews, a special sister-in-law and niece who helped with his care, Rhonda and Hope Crockett; his devoted friends Connie and David Sexton, Crissy Meredith, Eugene Turpin, and little Logan and Mackayla Meredith.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 AM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel, 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with burial following in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The Family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6 to 8 PM. Friends may also call at the homes of his sister Mary at 101 French St. or at the home of his sister Pam at 517 Mason Court Drive, Apt 1 in Pearisburg. The family would like to extend a sincere "Thank You" to all the Doctors and Nurses who waited on John, to the Giles Dialysis Center, CNRVMC, and all the neighbors, friends and church family for their food, flowers and care.
