John Steward
Shepherd
November 3, 1949 – February 18, 2025
John Steward Shepherd of Staffordsville, Virginia departed this life February 18, 2025 in his home. Born November 3, 1949 he was a son of the late Nellie Ratcliffe.
John served his country proudly as a SP4 in the United States Army during the Vietnam Campaign. He received during that time his Combat Infantry Badge, Campaign Medal, Air Medal, National Defense Medal, and SharpshooterM-14 and M-16. Professionally, John retired from both Pulaski Furniture, Radford Army Ammunition Plant, and Giles PSA. John was a people person, and he thrived while socializing with others. John also loved to work on the intricate detailing of small engine repair. In his spare time, John also enjoyed being an outdoorsman. While outside, John enjoyed the thrill of a hunt or the peacefulness that only fishing can bring.
In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna Turpin Shepherd; and his siblings, Hubert Shepherd and Bonnie Guill.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Phillip Shepherd, and Melissa Hall (Travis); and grandchildren, Angel Clark, Elizabeth Clark, and John Clark.
The family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Monday, February 24, 2025 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel. A Graveside Service will be conducted on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at 1:00 PM in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery with Pastor Charlie Henderson officiating.
