John "Tex" Alex Wilson, known affectionately as Tex to his loved ones and friends, formerly of Narrows, Virginia passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, at Highland Ridge Nursing Home in Dublin, Virginia. Born on September 25, 1945, in the rustic hills of West Virginia, Tex's journey through life was marked by his unwavering courage, kind-hearted nature, and the warm smile he readily shared.
Tex's early years in West Virginia to Virginia instilled in him a love for the great outdoors. His adventurous spirit led him to serve his country with honor as a SP4 during the Vietnam War, a period that showcased his resilience and patriotism. After his military service, Tex channeled his handiwork into his own venture, Wilson Construction, where he left a mark of craftsmanship.
The patriarch of a loving family, Tex's legacy is carried on by his cherished grandchildren, Harley Wilson (Matthew Romanello), Olivia Wilson, and his adoring great-grandchildren, Halle and Ledger Romanello, with another great-grandchild soon to join the family. Tex's memory is also lovingly remembered by his brothers, Steve Wilson (Diane), David Wilson (Vicky), Marvin Wilson, Wilbur Wilson (Emily), Brian Wilson (Vicky), and Stanley Chrupcala (Gail), and his sisters, Brenda Wilson, Doris Altizer, and Gloria Stump (Dean), who together with many other close family members and friends, formed the fabric of his rich life. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sharon Vaughn Wilson, his son, Christopher Michael Wilson, his parents, John Wilson and Virginia Meadows Stafford, and his brothers, Wendell Wilson and John Wilson Jr., as well as his sister-in-law, Donna Wilson.
Tex's zest for life was evident in his numerous interests and hobbies. He was a man who took great joy in spoiling his grandchildren. An avid fisherman and hunter, Tex found tranquility and purpose in nature's embrace, whether he was casting a line or tracking through the mountains. His affinity for wildlife extended to the simple pleasures of feeding the squirrels and birds. A true Western enthusiast, Tex could often be found engrossed in a classic Western film, where the tales of bravery and frontier justice were learned. His love for camaraderie was reflected in the time he spent with friends at local businesses. Always prepared and filled with love, Tex was never without his thermos full of coffee, and could often be seen in his cut off shirts.
The family wishes to extend a note of special gratitude to the loving family of care at Highland Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the love, support, and care shown to Mr. Wilson and their family over the past few years. That warmth and care demonstrated many times over and has truly made a difference.
