Kathleen Frances Hypes, 87, of Bluegrass Trail in Newport went home to be with the Lord on the morning of July 22, 2005 at Heritage Hall Health Care in Blacksburg. Born in Newport on May 12, 1918 she was a daughter of the late William Henry and Delia Shepherd Furrow. She was retired from the Celanese Celco Plant at Narrows and a member of Sherry Memorial Christian Church. Her husband Ira S. Hypes; a daughter, Eleanor Hypes Ballengee; a son, Ira Nelson Hypes; three brothers Clarence, Charles and Buddy Furrow; and a sister Hazel Keister all preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory a granddaughter and her husband Annette Ballengee Cundiff and Doug of Morehead City, NC; a grandson Jimmy Hypes of Pembroke; a daughter-in-law Janice Porterfield Hypes of Newport; a son-in-law and his wife Chuck and Nancy Ballengee of Christiansburg; a brother Robert Furrow of Blacksburg; and a sister Bertha Lafon of Newport.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Christiansburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made Sherry Memorial Christian Church or Carilion Hospice of The New River Valley.
