Lonnie Andrew Stone, 81 of Pearisburg, Virginia departed this life on September 9, 2023 while at home to enter into the gates of Heaven in the true spirit of his favorite song, Danny Boy as the Summer was leaving the mountain and the shadows begin to come in the valley.  Born on May 17, 1942 in Pineville, Louisiana he was the son of the late Henry Francis Stone and Ethel Hammond Stone.

Lonnie was a retired Master Sargent of the United States Army after serving 20 years, always giving and believing in the hopes of his country.  After retirement, Lonnie worked with Danny Thorn and Associates General Contractors.  A true outdoorsman in addition to patriot, Lonnie also enjoyed fishing, hunting, cutting wood, and manicuring his lawn as he mowed it.

In addition to his parents, Lonnie is preceded in death by his sisters, Effie Mae Brant, Elizabeth Sweat, Della Thompson; and brothers, Francis Frank Stone, Henry Harry Stone, and Roy Lee Stone.

Left to cherish his memory to their hearts are his wife, Virginia Moye Stone; daughters, Monika Lakose of New Jersey, Kimberly Mellott of Pennsylvania, Teresa Buracker (Charlie) of Narrows, Cheryl Lilly (Rodney Frazier) of Pearisburg, Mary Huskey Palmer of Pearisburg, and Debra Elshoulder of Montana; sons, Alvin Cumbee of Pembroke, and Bobby Cumbee of Pearisburg; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Longino (Richard) of Louisiana, and Kitty Vine of Louisiana; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends in a time of visitation on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in his home church, Angels Rest Baptist Fellowship-Pearisburg, VA.  A graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at 2:00 PM in Angels Rest Memorial Gardens with Pastor Craig Whittaker officiating.  Full Military Honors will also be presented in this service by the United States Army Honor Guard.  A guestbook is available to send condolences to the family by visiting www.kendallfuneralhome.com.  The staff of Kendall Funeral Home are honored to serve the Stone family.
