Obituary

Lorena O'Quinn Mutter, of Pearisburg, Virginia, a cherished matriarch and second mom to many, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on August 8, 1936, in Saltville, Virginia, Lorena's life was marked by her unwavering devotion to family, her steadfast faith, and her love for the simple pleasures of home and family.

Lorena was the loving heart of her family, providing guidance and strength to her children, Eva Hudson (Kevin) of Pembroke, Harold Mutter (Judith) of Ninety-Six, South Carolina, and Wesley Mutter (Christy) of Pearisburg, Virginia. She was a beloved sister to Ethel Cross and Georgia Snead, both of Cleveland, Tennessee. Her joy was multiplied by her adoring grandchildren, Alisha Hudson (William), Jacob Hudson (Journie), and Noah Mutter, as well as her great-grandson, Corbin Roach. There were also some special people who would grow up to affectionately refer to themselves as Rene's kids who have been honored by the light she has provided for them. Her home was a
safe space for so many kids to grow, love, learn and have fun. The backyard was host to countless games and adventures for all.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Robb and Jane O'Quinn of Saltville; her husband, Lloyd Mutter, who was her partner in life's journey; and her siblings, Bill, Fed, Lee, Dallas, Kansas O'Quinn, Edna Mutter, and Bonnie Puckett. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and their memories remained a cherished part of her life. Family reunions on both the Mutter and O'Quinn sides of the family were a fountain of happiness for her. She surely is reveling in a great reunion with many today in Heaven. Lloyd and Lorena were an inseparable couple. From the day they met until Lloyd's passing in 2015 they shared every step on the path together. Lloyd would affectionately say of the way they met, that he went to his nephew's house to borrow a bear gun but came home with a wildcat. Their love and devotion were an inspiration for all.

Lorena's commitment to her faith was evident through her involvement with Providence United Methodist Church, where she found solace and purpose. Her faith was not only a source of personal comfort but also an avenue through which she reached out to others, embodying the church's values of compassion and community.

Her work ethic and dedication were apparent to all who knew her. Lorena's home and gardens were a testament to her love for nurturing and creating beauty. The same care and attention she gave to her plants, she extended to her family, raising her three children and many more with love and instilling in them the values of hard work and integrity.

The family would like to give special thanks to all the staff at Heritage Hall Rich Creek for the outstanding care afforded their mom during her stay there. We are also very grateful that mom was blessed with the most caring and wonderful roommate for the last leg of her journey here on Earth, Ms. Evelyn Bradley.
