Loretta Mae Walkup Howell, age 88, of Christiansburg, Virginia, passed away on March 25, 2026. She was born on December 29, 1937, in West Virginia, and lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and her unwavering kindness toward others. Loretta was a Christian woman whose life reflected the values she held dear. She found comfort and strength in reading her Bible, and her faith guided the way she cared for those around her. She was known for her gentle spirit, her warm heart, and her willingness to help anyone in need. Whether she was cooking a meal, offering encouragement, or simply being present, Loretta gave of herself freely and lovingly. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant in varied areas, where her compassion and dependable nature were a blessing to many. Her work was more than a job to her, because she approached each day with patience, dignity, and a sincere desire to care for others. Those who knew her through her work will remember her as someone who served with kindness and grace. Family was the center of Loretta’s life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Walkup Sr. and Lillian Walkup; her husbands, Aldon Lee Moser and Merle Howell; her sons, Barry Wayne Moser, Marvin Moser, and Allen Moser; her brothers, Lawrence Walkup Jr. and Billy Walkup; and her sisters, Betty Jean Maxwell, Norma Meadows, Laura Fletcher, Bobby Ann Caldwell, and Judy Carroll. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life. She leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory always. Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Moser; her grandchildren, Christopher Moser and April Moser Toole and her husband Jordan; her great-grandchildren, Marcello Gabrielle Saurez and Jacie Sally Mae Moser; and many beloved nephews and nieces. Her nephews include Thomas Hudson and Melissa Hatcher, Michael Walkup, Danny Walkup, Jamie Elmore, Lawrence Walkup, Brock Meadows, Bruce Meadows, David Fletcher, John Paul Walkup, Brian Walkup, Blake Walkup, and Brad Walkup. Her nieces include Crystal Housman, Melody Martin, Rebecca Walkup, and Rene Walkup. She is also survived by her special great-nephews, Chris Dillon and Keith Dillon, along with her cherished furbabies, Zoey and Chloe, and several other cousins, family members, and friends who loved her dearly.
