Mabel Elizabeth Lucas, 104, of Newport, departed this life Saturday evening, February 1, 2014 at Lewis-Gale Montgomery Hospital in Blacksburg. Born in Arrington, Nelson Co., VA on November 12, 1909 she was a daughter of the late Mundy R. and Sallie Page Viar. She was a member of Sherry Memorial Christian Church and beloved wife of the late Alva Lucas. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Etta Link, Eva Breen, and Elnora Page and her brother Basil Viar.

She leaves to cherish her memory he daughter and son-in-law Hilda and Danny Compton of Newport; her grandchildren Amy Maxey, Sherri Songer, Brian and Ashley, Ashley Rennie and TJ; her great-grandchildren Logan and Landon Maxey.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with burial following in the Williams Cemetery on Rocky Sink Road, Newport.
