Obituary

Margaret Elizabeth Phlegar, 97, of Mt. Lake Avenue in Pearisburg, quietly departed this life Tuesday evening at her home. Born in Washington, DC on June 15, 1913 she was a daughter of the late George Luther and Jeanette Ashton Rolls Phlegar. A graduate of Radford State Teacher College, she was a dedicated educator first at Pembroke High School and later for many years at Dobyns Bennett in Kingsport, Tennessee until she retired. She was always the teacher keeping the "Kings English" intact and spoken as it should be. She was a devout Catholic and member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Pearisburg and had a passion for the Pearisburg Public Library. Her daylily gardens around her were massive and a bright spot for the whole town.

She leaves to cherish her memory her many students, friends, and her devoted caregivers, Jane and Robert Dalier, Angie Weatherly, Jessica Frazier, Brittany Hilton and Rebecca Blankenship who spent nearly six years with Margaret so she could remain at her home.

There will be a time of visitation for Margaret at the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St, Pembroke, Friday evening from 6 until 7 PM. A Prayer Service of Remembrance will be conducted at 7PM. Burial will be in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg at 11:00 AM on Saturday. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be celebrated in her memory at Holy Family Catholic Church, 516 Mason Court Circle, Pearisburg on January 9, 2011 at 8:30 AM Sunday morning. Margaret has requested that flowers be omitted and contributions be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or the Pearisburg Public Library.
