Mason Murray,Jr., 68, of Pembroke, passed from this life on, Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek, VA after a long illness. Born in Bishop, WV on December 7, 1941 he was a son of the late Mason Murray, Sr. and Edith Thorpe Murray. He had been employed with Norfolk-Southern Railway, loved music, pretty cars, fine jewelry and was drummer in a band and had the right moves on the dance floor. During his illness he had found Christ as his Savior and was baptized. Mason was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Geraldine Spikes and Rev Joyce Mitchell and his brother James C. Richmond.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Mary Chapman Murray; his sons Mark Edward Chapman of Pembroke, Mason Murray III of Pembroke, Marvin Lewis and wife Sybil Murray of Fredericksburg, VA; his daughter Shameka Smith; his father-in-law James Edward Chapman of Pembroke; his brothers Roy and wife Carrie Richmond of Tazewell, VA and Moses Murray of Ohio; his sisters Jonnie Mae Billings of Alabama, Mary Ferguson of Ohio, Gertrude (Richard) Taylor of VA, Sallie Watson of Bluefield, WV, Edith Eaves of Atlanta, GA; his nine grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with the Rev Ronald Dyer officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours before the services.
