Mildred Gay Gilmer, 89, of the Guinea Mt. Road at Pearisburg died Sunday morning January 2, 2005 in Roanoke Memorial Hospital in the loving care of her children. Born in Eggleston on March 26, 1915 she was a daughter of the late Luther Herman Long and Lucy Morton Long Sharpless. She was a beloved and devoted mother to her children and family. She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Elbert Gilmer and two grandchildren.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son and daughter-in-law Floyd F. and Brenda W. Gilmer of Roanoke; two daughters and sons-in-law Martha G. and Jack Tawney of Pearisburg and Edith G. and Gary Trout of Roanoke; six grandchildren Debbie Zero, Scott Washer, Sherry Pickeral, Michael Gilmer, Timmy Gilmer, Michaela Trout; eight great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; thirteen step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with burial following in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 PM.
