Obituary

Mildred Lorene Stephens, 82, of Green Valley Road, Eggleston, departed this life Sunday morning, October 20, 2013 in Christiansburg. Mildred was living in the home of her granddaughter Sarah and Phillip Hylton and children in Christiansburg. "We are so proud that she was with family in her last days and knew she was loved and cherished." She was born in the Broad Hollow Community of Giles County on May 31, 1931, a daughter of the late Charles William and Lillian Conley Tabor. She was also preceded in death by her husband Lawrence "Ralph" Stephens, her daughter Cathy Hodges, her sisters Barbara Yates and Jerry Grimes. Mildred was a member of Green Valley United Methodist Church and retired from the Celanese Plant at Narrows with twenty-eight years services.



She leaves to cherish her memory her children Richard (Donya) Stephens of Riner, Joyce (Will) Vest of Pembroke, Son-in-law Anthony Hodges of Charlotte, NC; her grandchildren Samantha Evans, Sarah Hylton, Marjorie Vest, David Stephens, Krystal Kesling, Matthew Hodges, Samuel Hodges; her eleven great-grandchildren; her sisters Peggy Holly, Ruth Meador, Sue Long, Terry Grimes, Brenda Pedigo, Flo Heatherington, and Fanny Songer;her sisters-in-law Nancy Stephens, Rhoda Stephens, and Marion Stephens.



Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours before the services.
