Monte Lane Eppling

Monte Lane Eppling, a cherished member of the Pembroke community, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, in his home. Born on September 25, 1950, in Pearisburg, Virginia, Monte lived a life marked by devotion to his family, dedication to his work, and a steadfast faith.

 Monte was the beloved husband of the late Irma Collins Eppling, with whom he shared a profound and enduring love. Together, they raised a beautiful family, instilling in their children the values of hard work, kindness, and compassion. He was a guiding light to his children, Frankie Eppling and Melissa Austin (Anthony), and took immense pride in the accomplishments and joys of his grandchildren, Amber Nicole Eppling and Aaron Austin (Jada). His siblings, Ricky Eppling, Charlotte Epperly, and Merinda Williams (Jeff), along with his brothers-in-law, Jimmy "JK" Fisher, Billy Collins, Pete Collins, and sisters-in-law, Jean Ratcliffe and Rose Darnell, remember Monte for his unwavering support and the deep bonds they shared. Monte was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Spencer Eppling and Dolly Porterfield Williams, his son, Kevin Eppling, and his siblings, Bonnie Anderson, Connie Fisher, and Tommy Epperly, as well as his sisters-in-law, Teri Eppling, and brothers-in-law, Alfred Anderson and Mike Epperley. His niece and nephew, Alfred "Andy" Anderson Jr and Kerry Woodbury, also preceded him in death. 

Monte's work ethic was exemplary. He spent years as a dedicated mine worker at the National Gypsum Lime Plant in Kimballton, Virginia. Monte's commitment to service extended beyond his professional life; he was a past member of the Pembroke Volunteer Fire Department, where he contributed his time and energy to ensure the safety of his community. A man of faith, Monte found solace and strength in reading his Bible. His spiritual life was a cornerstone that sustained him through life's challenges and enriched the everyday moments. Monte also had a passion for piddling with lawn mowers, a hobby that allowed him to tinker and stay active, often leading to many hours spent in his garage or backyard, where he could be found fixing and improving with a contented smile on his face. Monte's presence was a comfort to those who knew him. His laughter, wisdom, and the stories he shared will be deeply missed by his many nieces and nephews, several other close family members, and the many friends who were fortunate enough to have known him.
