Nellie Jane Stanley, 76, of the Hoges Chapel Community near Pembroke departed this life Wednesday evening March 14, 2007. Born in Bland County on August 22, 1930 she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Virginia Lawson Whittaker. She was preceded in death by her husband Oscar Stanley; three brothers Sidney, David, and Donald Whittaker and two sisters Dolly Clemens and Mary Peters.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons and daughters-in-law Safford and Helen Stanley of Hoges Chapel, Robert "Bobby" and Karen Stanley of Pembroke; two daughters and sons-in-law Patricia and Donnie Whittaker of Pearisburg, Nellie Louise and David Rose of Pearisburg; two brothers James and Clayton Whittaker both of Pembroke; three sisters Dorothy Vaught of Eggleston, Lena Rucker of Kimballton, Rosie Corner of Pulaski; eighteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 AM in The Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St in Pembroke with burial following at Newport Cemetery in Newport.
