Obituary

Rayburn Leon Atkins, 79, of Pearisburg and formerly of Eggleston, departed this life at his home Sunday morning, December 28, 2014. Born in Eggleston on December 29, 1934, he was a son of the late John Robert and Mary Rena Kingrea Atkins. He had been employed as a Survey Engineer and TAP Co-ordinatior for the State of Virginia and as a farmer in Berton. He was a 1951 graduate of Eggleston High School, a veteran of the U S Air Force (Korean War) and a member of Eggleston United Methodist Church where he had enjoyed singing in the choir. He was also a dedicated golfer.



He leaves to cherish his memory his dedicated and devoted wife, Barbara Ann Moye Atkins; his brother John Robert "Bill" Atkins of Roanoke; his sister Betty Zane Atkins Grim of Bluefield, WV; several beloved nieces and nephews (two special little great niece and nephew Addison and Cole Moye).



Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with burial following in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 pm. Online condolences may be sent by visiting kendallfuneralhome.com.
