"RICK" RICKY LEE COOLEY, 69, of Check (Floyd Co) departed this life Sunday evening, February, 28, 2016 at Lewis-Gale Medical Center, Salem. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana on December 14, 1946, he was a son of the late Ronald Wilson and Mildred Alexander Cooley. Rick was a graduate of the art department at Indiana University and used his talents among artists in the Floyd area with the "Floyd Figures". He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jamison Nathan Cooley, and his brother Tony Cooley.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter and son-in-law Christina Marie and William Sparks of Tazewell, VA; his grandchildren Ashley Renee Mitchell (Daniel), Amber Marie Sparks (Brandon Flanner) and Brienna Megan Sparks; his great-grandson Huntley Coal Mitchell; his special niece Harmony Sexton (Bobby Joe), great-niece Hayleigh Nicole Abbott, and former wife and friend, Cheryl Cooley-Newman

There will be a Celebration of Life in his memory, March 12, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Floyd Hotel in Floyd, VA. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to The Jacksonville Center For The Arts, 220 Parkway Lane South, Floyd, VA 24091 The Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke is in charge of arrangements.
