Robert Edward Litchford, 84, of Newport, departed this life in the quietness of his own home Monday morning, November 24, 2008. Born in Giles County on July 3, 1924, he was a son of the late Thomas and Ida Meredith Litchford. He was a veteran of the U S Army in WW II, and was retired from Virginia Lime Co. and VPI. "Bob" was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorthalene Rader Litchford, his grandsons Michael and Terrill Dowdy, his sisters Lucille "Jake" Vest and Doree Huffmaster.

He leaves to cherish his memory his sons and daughter-in-law Tommy and Judy Litchford of Christiansburg, Wesley Litchford of Pembroke, and Aaron Litchford of Radford; his daughters and sons-in-law Robalene and Bob Bishop of Radford and Karen and Gary Dowdy of Maybrook; his eleven grandchildren, his sixteen great-grandchildren and his sister "Tootsie" Lillian Keffer of Pembroke.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with burial following in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
