Ronald Hobert Mitchell of Narrows left this life on his mother's, Eva Shire Mitchell's, birthday, July 23 2018, to be with the Lord. He was born on January 12, 1939 in Verner, WV. He was the son of the late Arnold Hobert Mitchell and the late Eva Fern Shires Mitchell of Rich Creek, VA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 56 years, Linda Jacques Mitchell of Narrows, VA and a brother, Timothy Wayne Mitchell.
He graduated from Narrows High School in 1957. He served in the US Army from 1959 to 1963. He worked at the Celanese Fibers plant from 1963 until he retired in December 2000. He leaves behind to cherish his memory two daughters, Laurie Mitchell Metro of Port Canaveral, FL and Amy Mitchell Turner and husband Jeff of Narrows, his six grandchildren, Andy Metro (Megan) of Pearisburg, Jennifer Caldwell (Brian) of Christiansburg VA, Wesley Woodyard (Danielle), Natalie Stables (Derek), Stephanie Woodyard (Jason), and Todd Turner (Becky) all of Narrows, his great-grandchildren, Maddox, Pierce, Taylor, Riley, Jayce, Lainey, Noah, Dakota, Ella, Aubrey and Bryce. He will be dearly missed by his brother, Larry Mitchell of Rich Creek, several nieces and nephews, cousins, his best friend Danny Meadows, and special neighbors, Jerry and Bonnie Dunford.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved every minute he could spend in the woods or on the riverbank. He loved his country and enjoyed participating in the Memorial Day parade in Narrows.
Family and friends are invited to the join the family, at First Baptist Church in Narrows on Saturday, July 28. The family will receive friends at 12 noon with services immediately following at 1 PM. Services will be officiated by Pastor Aubrey Whitlow. A military graveside service will be conducted immediately following where Ronnie's and Linda's ashes will be buried together at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Rich Creek, VA.
