Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Sarah Jane Dennis-Mitchem of Pembroke, Virginia announces her passing at her home on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at the age of 70. Sarah lived her life serving her family as a homemaker and enjoyed raising chickens. Many of the residents of Doe Creek Road ate fresh chicken eggs for many years. Sarah is preceded in death by her loving husband of 33 years, James "Buddy" Edward Mitchem, Sr. and her mother, Panzie Ellen Elmore-Dennis.

Sarah will be lovingly remembered by her children, Karl Gillespie of Pembroke, Shairan Gillespie-Araiza (Jose) of Check, Susan Mitchem-Santolla (Timmy) of Pembroke and James "Edward" Mitchem, Jr (Eric) of Christiansburg. Sarah will also be fondly remembered by her six grandchildren Justin Smith of Pembroke, Josh Smith (Nikki) of Blacksburg, Sarah Araiza (Jason) of Christiansburg, Haley Araiza (Matthew) of Christiansburg, Willy Santolla (Liane) of Pembroke and Joey Santolla of Pembroke. Sarah leaves behind five great-grandchildren Braxton, Levi, Waylon, Alleigha, and Braydon. Sarah also leaves behind a Brother Chuck Dennis (Sally) of Radford, two sisters Lola Dalton of Goldbond and Rita Bradberry (Robert) of Blacksburg.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 3, 2018, at 11:00 am, in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with longtime family friend Jerry Smith delivering the eulogy. Graveside services will follow at New Zion Cemetery in Waiteville, WV. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the services. .
