Stephen Phillip Gilmer, 60, of the Guinea Mt. Community at Pearisburg died Tuesday February 14, at MCV Hospital. Born in Giles County on November 5, 1945 he was a son of the late James Luther and Virginia Ratcliffe Gilmer. He had been self-employed as a painter. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Nancy G. Todd.

He is survived by five sons Stephen Abel of Richmond, Stephen Gilmer of Pearisburg, Joseph Gilmer, Matthew Gilmer, Jacob Gilmer all of Pembroke; three daughters Shannon Gilmer of Richmond; Crystal Foster Coleman and Stephanie Foster Tran; three brothers Nathan Gilmer of Staffordsville, David Gilmer of Richmond and Timothy Gilmer of Richmond; a beloved sister Esther Gilmer Newby of Pearisburg; and one grandson Tyler Coleman.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with burial following in the Newby Cemetery in Rye Hollow. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6 to 8 PM.
