Stevie Allen Rice, known affectionately as Pee Wee to his loved ones and friends, of Pembroke, Virginia passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, in the care of Carilion Giles Community Hospital, at the age of 71. Born on September 24, 1954, in the same close-knit community,
Stevie grew up to be a man of great character, strength, and warmth, touching the lives of all who knew him. Stevie was a proud veteran, having served his country as an E4 in the United States Army. His time in the military instilled in him a sense of discipline and a strong work ethic, which he carried with him throughout his life. After his service, he found his calling as a carpenter in construction, where his skilled hands and keen eye for detail were evident in every project he undertook. His work not only provided for his family but also left a lasting legacy in the structures he helped to build and the community he helped to shape.
A dedicated family man, Stevie's greatest pride lay in his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy Rice, with whom he shared countless cherished memories. His legacy lives on through his son, Tommy Rice (Lisa), and daughter, Jennifer Eads (John), who will carry forward the values he instilled in them. His grandchildren, Breanna Spears (Madyson), Megan Rice, Thomas Rice, and Devin Eads, and great-grandchildren, Mayson and Marshall Spears, will remember their grandfather as a pillar of strength and love. Stevie also leaves behind his brother, Ronald Rice of Rich Creek, and brother-in-law, Jerry Lee Austin, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss his generous spirit. Stevie was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Rice and Margaret King Rice; his sister, Doris Austin; his sister, Elizabeth Rice Knight; and his brother, James McKinley Rice.
The memories of Stevie's kindness, humor, and unwavering integrity will continue to comfort those who mourn his passing. Stevie's interests and hobbies were a reflection of his robust and hands-on approach to life. He found joy in building, cutting wood, and working on vehicles. His love for music, Nascar Racing, and westerns, especially those starring John Wayne, spoke to his adventurous and spirited nature. Stevie was a man who could fix anything, a trait that endeared him to friends and neighbors alike.
