Thelma Louise Dowdy, 63, of Mt. Lake and Heritage Acres in Blacksburg, departed this life Friday morning July 7, 2006 at Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg. Born in Giles Co. on August 15, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Burtle Thaw and Mary Agnes Williams Songer. She had been employed as a cook in several restaurants and was preceded in death by two sons Carl Benton Dowdy and Ricky Lee Dowdy.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters Lisa Annette Justice of Riner and Debbie Hilton and husband Joe of Mt. Lake; four grandchildren Joey Hilton, Ashley Nicole Justice, Raymond Ayers Justice, James Justice; one great-grandchild Amber Michelle Hilton; four brothers Walter Williams of Mt. Lake, Leonard Steve Songer of Mt. Lake, Edward Thaw Songer of WV, Bob Truman Songer of Newport; three sisters Barbara McGuire of Mt Lake, Betty Breeding of Craig Co., Kathy Carter of Blacksburg.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with burial following in the Songer Cemetery at Mt. Lake, Newport. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6 to 8 PM.
