Mrs. Vellen Summers King, 98, Born June 1, 1922 was called to be with her Lord on June 14, 2020 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

She was the daughter of the late Cecil D. and Sydney Slash Summers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus B. King, Sons, Freddie King and Douglas King, Sisters, Kathleen Jones and Cornellia Summers and Brother, Harold Summers.

Mrs. King was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Pembroke. She was a loving mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Pastor Joann King Carper and husband Pastor Fred Carper of Pembroke, (whom she resided with) Donald King and wife Madeline of Pembroke and Rufus Lee King Jr. of Pembroke. She is also survived by her special brother, James E. Summers of Pembroke and a Daughter-In- Law, Missy King of Martinsburg, WV.

Mrs. King was the grandmother of 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

There will be a Homegoing service on Friday, June 19, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor Fred Carper the Reverend Eddie Kendall and the Elder Doug Carper Officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 19, 2020 at Kendall Funeral Home from 12 - 2 P.M. A meal and time of celebration will follow the services at the Pembroke fire department.
