Virginia Bell Kanode, 86, of Irvin Street in Narrows departed this life Monday evening December 31, 2007 at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Born in Pembroke on May 4, 1921 she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Nellie Jane Lucas Gillispie. She was a long time member of the Pembroke Church of God. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Virgil, Frank, Billy, and Harold Gillispie and sisters Hazel Creasey, Irene Martin, Maxine McGuire, and Nannie Gillispie; and husbands Clarence Lindsey and Wilbert Kanode

She leaves to cherish her memory a son and daughter-in-law Roger and Linda Gathercole Gillispie of Newport; four grandchildren Gregory Gillispie, Stacy and wife Tina Gillispie, Nicolas and wife Tara Gillispie, and Christopher Gillispie; a great-grandchild Kristin Gillispie; a brother Jimmy Gillispie of Pembroke; a sister Avis G. Detamore of Pembroke; special family friends Lee and Mary Johnson.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with Pastor Stanley (Shake) Smith and Pastor James Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6 to 8 PM.
